Brightside Honiton sits on the A303 in Devon – right on one of the main routes into the South West. Whether you’re heading for the coast, cutting across to Cornwall, or making your way towards Dartmoor, Honiton is a natural place to stop, eat properly, and carry on feeling good about the journey.
We opened Brightside Honiton in the summer of 2023, and it’s become a favourite with families, couples, dog owners, and EV drivers who know that a proper meal makes the difference between a journey and a good day out.
The menu runs all day, from breakfast through to the evening. The Brightside Breakfast is the one people come back for – smoked streaky bacon, proper sausages, hash browns, free-range eggs any style, baked beans, mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, and toast. It’s the kind of thing that makes the rest of the journey feel easy.
Not in a breakfast mood? There’s sourdough pizza, fish and chips, burgers, salads, and puddings worth making room for. The kids’ menu is a proper one. Vegan and gluten-free menus have real variety.
Brightside Honiton has two EV charging points in the car park. Plug in when you arrive, sit down, eat well, and leave with a full car and a full stomach. A typical charge gives you plenty of time to get through breakfast and a coffee before you need to be anywhere.
We’re dog-friendly at Honiton. Bring them in.
We’d recommend booking ahead at weekends and during school holidays – Honiton gets busy in summer and the right booth is worth securing. Walk-ins are always welcome.
The Jurassic Coast (15–20 mins)
A UNESCO World Heritage Site stretching 95 miles along the English Channel, famous for dramatic cliffs, fossil hunting, and some of Devon’s finest beaches. The closest spots are Sidmouth, Beer, and Branscombe. Beer has a working fishing beach and high chalk cliffs; Sidmouth is more genteel with good coastal walks.
Dartmoor National Park (approx. 45 mins)
Moors, tors, wild swimming spots, and some of the best walking in the South West. If you’re stopping at Honiton on the way to Dartmoor, the timing usually works out well.
East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Starts effectively at Honiton’s doorstep. Walking, cycling, and open countryside with the Blackdown Hills and River Otter valley close by.
Hembury Fort
An Iron Age hillfort a short drive from town. Spectacular in late spring when the bluebells are out.
Allhallows Museum
Free to visit. Houses an extensive collection of Honiton lace, including pieces connected to Queen Victoria’s wedding dress. Worth half an hour if you’re passing through the town itself.
Thelma Hulbert Gallery
Free contemporary art gallery in the town, with local and national exhibitions and an art garden.
Honiton’s Antique Shops
Widely regarded as the antiques capital of the South West. Good independent high street if you want to stretch your legs before getting back on the road.
Jurassic Coast events – throughout summer. Guided fossil walks, beach activities, and coast path events along Sidmouth, Beer, and Seaton. High visitor traffic on the A303 from June through August.
Dartmoor events – throughout summer. Walking festivals, open-air theatre, and outdoor activities. Honiton is a natural refuelling point before heading onto the moor.
Boardmasters – 5–9 August 2026, Newquay. Heading to Cornwall for the festival? Honiton is a solid stop on the A303 before you join the A30 west. Get breakfast sorted before the festival traffic builds.
Honiton Agricultural Show – summer, dates TBC. One of Devon’s oldest agricultural shows. Check 2026 dates for the local calendar.
